Blotting Papers

Blotting paper is used in the lab for the transfer of proteins from a gel onto a membrane. It is used in transfer sandwiches and cassettes during Western blotting and can transfer proteins onto PVDF, nitrocellulose, and other types of membranes. Blotting papers that are suitable for wet, semi-dry, passive, or electrophoretic transfer are available. The thickness of the paper determines the flow rate. When selecting a suitable blotting paper, flow rate, type of protein, and material from which the paper is made should be considered, depending on the intended application. Blotting paper should be smooth, to allow compatibility with various solvents and to facilitate a uniform flow of the buffer through the gel onto the membrane. Blotting paper can also be used as wicks in protein or nucleic acid blotting. Visit the supplier page for more product information.
