Blotting Membranes and Papers

Blotting membranes and papers are used during immunoblotting techniques such as Western Blot. Blotting membranes are used for protein immobilization while blotting paper is used during protein transfer from a gel onto the membrane. Nitrocellulose and PDVF (polyvinylidene fluoride) are the most frequently used types of blotting membranes. Nitrocellulose, while less sensitive than PVDF, has lower background noise and is more suitable for detecting proteins of low molecular weight. PVDF membranes have high thermal stability, good chemical resistance, high hydrophobicity, and good mechanical strength. Blotting and filter papers come in varying thicknesses and sizes and can be used for wet or semi-dry as well as passive or electrophoretic transfer of proteins. Blotting papers are often used for transfer sandwiches and cassettes, as well as for wicks in protein or nucleic acid blotting. Visit the supplier page for more product information.
