Acridine Orange

Acridine Orange is a fluorescent dye that associates with and intercalates specifically with DNA and RNA. The dye is cell-permeable and will stain living and dead cells. It will also sequester in acidic cellular compartments, such as lysosomes. Acridine Orange emits green when bound to DNA, red when bound to RNA and lysosomes. The dye has found use in a variety of staining applications, including flow cytometry, epifluorescence microscopy, sperm quality analysis, microorganism detection, and cell cycle analysis.
