Incubators control the environment for cell cultures by controlling temperature, relative humidity, and carbon dioxide (CO2). Controlling CO2 is important as it indirectly controls pH levels of the sample. The two methodologies currently available to measure percentage of CO2 in the atmosphere of an incubator are thermal conductivity, which measures electrical resistance through the air, or through infrared (IR) sensors that measure the wavelength of light absorbed by CO2. Learn more about the chemistry of pH and cell growth and how to select the ideal incubator sensor for your lab.
