The protein is known to act as one of several non-catalytic accessory components of the cytoplasmic dynein 1 complex that are thought to be involved in linking dynein to cargos and to adapter proteins that regulate dynein function. The DYNC1I2 protein is 638 amino acid residues in length and 71.5 kilodaltons in mass. However, as many as 6 protein isoforms have been identified. It is localized to the cytoplasm of the cell.
