ICA69 is an alias of the human ICA1 gene, which encodes the protein, islet cell autoantigen 1. The protein is believed to play a role in neurotransmitter secretion. The ICA1 protein is 483 amino acid residues in length and 54.6 kilodaltons in mass. However, as many as 3 protein isoforms have been identified. It is localized to the membrane, cytoplasmic vesicles, golgi, and cytoplasm of the cell. In terms of tissue specificity, it is noted to be expressed abundantly in pancreas, heart and brain with low levels of expression in the lung, kidney, liver and thyroid. Other names for this target antigen include ICAp69.
