Notably, ANK is known to play a role in cytoskeleton organization and Golgi transport, among other functions. The ANK1 protein is 1881 amino acid residues in length and 206.3 kilodaltons in mass. However, as many as 23 protein isoforms have been identified. It is localized to the cytoplasm of the cell. This protein is known to be palmitoylated, cleaved and phosphorylated. Other names for this target antigen include SPH1.
