LacI is an alternative name for the human TFPI gene, which encodes the protein, tissue factor pathway inhibitor. The target protein is reported to inhibit factor X (X(a)) directly and, in a Xa-dependent way, inhibits VIIa/tissue factor activity, presumably by forming a quaternary Xa/LACI/VIIa/TF complex. Structurally, the TFPI protein is 304 amino acid residues in length and 35 kilodaltons in mass. However, as many as 2 protein isoforms have been identified. It is known to be a secreted protein.
