sIgA ELISA kits are assays designed to detect secretory immunoglobulin A (sIgA). It is a dimer of IgA, with a joining protein (J chain) and a secretory component. It plays a role in the immune function, regulation and homeostasis of mucous membranes. Its secretory component protects it from proteolytic degradation. It can be found in tears, saliva, sweat and blood. Its main function is immune exclusion, wherein it inhibits and neutralizes viruses, bacteria and exotoxins, while facilitating their removal. sIgA can also inhibit inflammatory effects of other immunoglobulins.
