Anti-Ataxin 2 antibodies are directed against the protein encoded by the gene ATXN2 in humans. The Ataxin 2 protein has an expected mass of 140.3 kDa, but there are 5 reported isoforms. The protein may also be known as SCA2, ATX2, TNRC13, spinocerebellar ataxia type 2 protein, and trinucleotide repeat-containing gene 13 protein. Variants of this antigen may also be found in other species, including fly, canine, porcine, monkey, mouse and rat.
