Anti-PFIC antibodies are used in antigen-specific immunodetection in biological samples. The target PFIC is a known alias name of the protein ATPase phospholipid transporting 8B1, encoded by the ATP8B1 gene in humans. This 1251-amino acid residue protein is reported to be a catalytic component of a P4-ATPase flippase complex which catalyzes the hydrolysis of ATP coupled to the transport of phospholipids, in particular phosphatidylcholines (PC), from the outer to the inner leaflet of the plasma membrane. It is localized to the ER, Golgi, and cell membrane of the cell. It is reported to be widely expressed in many tissue types.
