Anti-NODAL antibodies are used in the immunodetection of the protein nodal growth differentiation factor. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 347 amino acid residues and a mass of 39.6 kDa. It has been described to be a secreted protein. A member of the TGF-beta protein family, Nodal is known to be important for mesoderm formation and axial patterning during embryonic development. Post-translational modifications have been described, including glycosylation. The NODAL gene has been associated with the disease, Heterotaxy. Synonyms for this target antigen include HTX5 and nodal homolog. NODAL gene orthologs have been reported in the mouse, rat, bovine, frog, chimpanzee and chicken species. A number of Nodal antibodies have been mentioned in research publications and have associated citations. Western Blot is a widely used application for these antibodies. ELISA and Immunohistochemistry are also common applications.
