Anti-Perilipin 5 antibodies are used in the immunodetection of the protein encoded by the PLIN5 gene. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 463 amino acid residues and a mass of 50.8 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the mitochondria and cytoplasm. It is reported to be expressed in skeletal muscle, liver, heart and kidney. A member of the Perilipin protein family, it is known to be involved with the metabolism of lipids. Post-translational modifications have been described, including phosphorylation. Other names for this target antigen include lipid storage droplet protein 5.
