Anti-Keratin 6C antibodies are used for the immunodetection of the protein encoded by the KRT6C gene. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 564 amino acid residues and a mass of 60 kDa. It is notably expressed in distinct types of epithelia such as those in oral mucosa, esophagus, papillae of tongue and hair follicle outer root sheath. A member of the Intermediate filament protein family, it is known to be involved with cytoskeleton organization. The gene encoding this protein is implicated in Palmoplantar keratoderma. Other names for this target antigen include CK-6C, CK-6E, K6C, cytokeratin-6C, cytokeratin-6E, keratin 6C, type II, and keratin, type II cytoskeletal 6C.
