Anti-POF antibodies enable researchers to detect and measure the POF antigen in biological samples. This target is a reported synonym of the FMR1 gene, which encodes fragile X messenger ribonucleoprotein 1. This protein is known to function in viral immune response and DNA repair, among other biological roles. The human version of POF has a canonical amino acid length of 632 residues and a protein mass of 71.2 kilodaltons, although 11 isoforms have been identified. It is reported to be localized in the cytoplasm of cells and widely expressed in many tissue types. POF is a member of the FMR1 protein family.
