Anti-melanophilin antibodies are used in the immunodetection of the protein encoded by the MLPH gene. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 600 amino acid residues and a mass of 65.9 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the cytoplasm. Alternative splicing is reported to yield 5 different isoforms for this protein. The melanophilin protein is involved with intracellular protein transport, among other functions. Other names for this target antigen include slp homolog lacking C2 domains a, synaptotagmin-like protein 2a, and exophilin-3.
