Anti-HER-2/neu antibodies are used in antigen-specific immunodetection in biological samples. The target HER-2/neu is a known alias name of the protein erb-b2 receptor tyrosine kinase 2, encoded by the ERBB2 gene in humans. This 1255-amino acid residue protein is known to be involved in receptor-mediated signaling pathways and cardiac tissue development, among other biological processes. It is localized to the cell membrane of the cell and features phosphorylated and glycosylated post-translational modifications. In terms of tissue expression, it is reported to be expressed in a variety of tumor tissues including primary breast tumors and tumors from small bowel, esophagus, kidney and mouth. Other synonyms for HER-2/neu include CD340, HER-2, and HER-2/neu. Some HER-2/neu antibodies may have been used in research and have associated citations. Western Blot is a widely used application for these antibodies. ELISA and Immunohistochemistry are also common applications.
