The gene may also be known as CTX, CP27, CYP27, sterol 26-hydroxylase, mitochondrial, and 5-beta-cholestane-3-alpha, 7-alpha, 12-alpha-triol 26-hydroxylase. Structurally, the protein is reported to be 60.2 kilodaltons in mass. The CYP27A1 marker can be used to identify Alveolar Macrophages CCL3+ Cells, Alveolar Macrophages, Alveolar Macrophages Proliferating Cells, and Alveolar Macrophages Mt+ Cells.* Based on gene name, canine, porcine, monkey, mouse and rat orthologs may also be found.
