Anti-shortage in chiasmata 1 antibodies are used for the immunodetection of the protein encoded by the SHOC1 gene. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 1444 amino acid residues and a mass of 165.2 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the nucleus and chromosomes. Alternative splicing is reported to yield 3 different isoforms for this protein. It is a member of the XPF protein family. The gene encoding this protein is implicated in Spermatogenic failure. Other names for this target antigen include protein ZIP2 homolog, uncharacterized protein C9orf84, and protein shortage in chiasmata 1 ortholog. Gene orthologs have been identified in the mouse, rat, bovine, frog, zebrafish, chimpanzee and chicken species.
