Anti-meiosis initiator antibodies are used for the immunodetection of the protein encoded by the MEIOSIN gene. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 638 amino acid residues and a mass of 70.2 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the nucleus. It is noted to be involved in the regulation of transcription and spermatogenesis. Other names for this target antigen include HMG domain containing, basic helix-loop-helix and HMG box domain containing 1, basic helix-loop-helix and HMG box domain-containing protein 1, and meiosis initiator protein. Gene orthologs have been identified in the mouse, rat, bovine, frog, chimpanzee and chicken species.
