Anti-meiosis specific with OB-fold antibodies are used for the immunodetection of the protein encoded by the MEIOB gene. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 442 amino acid residues and a mass of 49.3 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the nucleus and cytoplasm. Alternative splicing is reported to yield 2 different isoforms for this protein. A member of the MEIOB protein family, it is known to be involved with DNA repair. The gene encoding this protein is implicated in Spermatogenic failure. Other names for this target antigen include meiosis-specific with OB domain-containing protein and meiosis specific with OB domains. Gene orthologs have been identified in the mouse, rat, bovine, frog, zebrafish, chimpanzee and chicken species.
