Anti-desert hedgehog signaling molecule antibodies are used for the immunodetection of the protein encoded by the DHH gene. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 396 amino acid residues and a mass of 43.6 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the ER, Golgi, cell membrane, and is secreted. A member of the Hedgehog protein family, it is known to be involved with cell to cell signaling and Leydig cell differentiation. Post-translational modifications have been described, including palmitoylation and protein cleavage. Other names for this target antigen include GDXYM, HHG-3, SRXY7, desert hedgehog protein, and GDMN. Gene orthologs have been identified in the mouse, rat, bovine, frog, chimpanzee and chicken species.
