The gene may also be known as microfibrillar associated protein 5, AAT9, MAGP-2, MAGP2, MFAP-5, and THE1A-MFAP5. Structurally, the protein is reported to be 19.6 kilodaltons in mass. The MFAP5 marker can be used to identify Adventitial Fibroblasts, Ureter Pi16+ Fibroblast Cells, and Bladder Pi16+ Fibroblast Cells.* Based on gene name, canine, porcine, monkey, mouse and rat orthologs may also be found.
