Anti-LY6D antibodies are used in the immunodetection of the protein lymphocyte antigen 6 family member D. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 128 amino acid residues and a mass of 13.3 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the cell membrane. It is noted to be expressed exclusively at the outer cell surface of transitional epithelia and the keratinocyte of stratified squamous epithelia. LY6D is believed to act as a specification marker at earliest stage specification of lymphocytes between B- and T-cell development.
The LY6D marker can be used to identify Type 3 Medullary Thymic Epithelial Cells.* Synonyms for this target antigen include lymphocyte antigen 6D, e48 antigen, lymphocyte antigen 6 complex, locus D, and E48. LY6D gene orthologs have been reported in the mouse, bovine, zebrafish and chimpanzee species. Over 70 citations in the literature describe the use of LY6D antibodies in research. These antibodies are most commonly used in Flow Cytometry experiments, among other applications.
