Anti-MFGE8 antibodies are used in the immunodetection of the protein milk fat globule EGF and factor V/VIII domain containing. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 387 amino acid residues and a mass of 43.1 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the cytoplasmic vesicles, membrane, and is secreted. Up to 4 different isoforms have been reported for this protein. It is notably widely expressed in many tissue types. MFGE8 is known to play an important role in the maintenance of intestinal epithelial homeostasis and the promotion of mucosal healing. Post-translational modifications have been described, including glycosylation.
The MFGE8 marker can be used to identify Follicular Dendritic Cells, Follicular Dendritic Cells (FDC), and Fibroblastic Reticular Cells (FRC).* Synonyms for this target antigen include EDIL1, HMFG, HsT19888, MFGM, OAcGD3S, SED1, SPAG10, and BA46. MFGE8 gene orthologs have been reported in the mouse, rat, bovine, frog, chimpanzee and chicken species.
