Anti-c-myc antibodies are used in antigen-specific immunodetection in biological samples. The target c-myc is a known alias name of the protein MYC proto-oncogene, bHLH transcription factor, encoded by the MYC gene in humans. This 454-amino acid residue protein is reported to be a transcription factor that binds DNA in a non-specific manner, yet also specifically recognizes the core sequence 5'-CAC[GA]TG-3'. It is localized to the nucleus of the cell and features glycosylated, ubiquitinated and phosphorylated post-translational modifications. It is reported to be widely expressed in many tissue types. The c-myc marker has been identified in populations of Early Erythroid Cells and Naive Thymus-Derived CD8+ ?ß T Cells.* Other synonyms for c-myc include MRTL, MYCC, and bHLHe39.
