Anti-SLC22A8 antibodies are used in the immunodetection of the protein solute carrier family 22 member 8. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 542 amino acid residues and a mass of 59.9 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the cell membrane. Up to 5 different isoforms have been reported for this protein. It is reported to be highly expressed in the kidney. A member of the Organic cation transporter (TC 2.A.1.19) protein family, SLC22A8 is known to function as a organic anion/dicarboxylate exchanger that couples organic anion uptake indirectly to the sodium gradient. Post-translational modifications have been described, including glycosylation.
The SLC22A8 marker can be used to identify Proximal Tubule Segment 1 Epithelial Cells and Proximal Tubule Segment 2 Epithelial Cells.* Synonyms for this target antigen include organic anion transporter 3, hOAT3, organic anion/dicarboxylate exchanger, solute carrier family 22 (organic anion transporter), member 8, and OAT3. SLC22A8 gene orthologs have been reported in the mouse, rat and chimpanzee species.
