Anti-synaptotagmin 16 antibodies are used in the immunodetection of the protein encoded by the SYT16 gene. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 645 amino acid residues and a mass of 72.3 kDa. Alternative splicing is reported to yield 4 different isoforms for this protein. It is reported to be expressed in the brain. A member of the Synaptotagmin protein family, it is suspected to be involved in the trafficking and exocytosis of secretory vesicles in non-neuronal tissues. Other names for this target antigen include synaptotagmin 14-like protein, synaptotagmin XIV-related protein, synaptotagmin XVI, and chr14 synaptotagmin.
