Anti-transcobalamin 1 antibodies are used for the immunodetection of the protein encoded by the TCN1 gene. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 433 amino acid residues and a mass of 48.2 kDa. It is known to be a secreted protein. A member of the Eukaryotic cobalamin transport proteins protein family, it is known to bind vitamin B12 with femtomolar affinity and protects it from the acidic environment of the stomach. Post-translational modifications have been described, including glycosylation. Other names for this target antigen include TC-1, TC1, TCI, haptocorin, haptocorrin, and HC. Gene orthologs have been identified in the mouse, rat, bovine and chimpanzee species. Some transcobalamin 1 antibodies may have been used in research and have associated citations. Western Blot is a widely used application for these antibodies. ELISA and Immunohistochemistry are also common applications.
