Anti-defensin alpha 3 antibodies are used for the immunodetection of the protein encoded by the DEFA3 gene. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 94 amino acid residues and a mass of 10.2 kDa. It is known to be a secreted protein. A member of the Alpha-defensin protein family, it is reported to be an effector molecule of the innate immune system that acts via antibiotic-like properties against a broad array of infectious agents including bacteria, fungi, and viruses. Other names for this target antigen include HNP-3, HNP3, HP-3, HP3, neutrophil defensin 3, and DEF3. Some defensin alpha 3 antibodies may have been used in research and have associated citations. Immunohistochemistry is a widely used application for these antibodies. ELISA and Western Blot are also common applications.
