Anti-Caveolin 3 antibodies are used in the immunodetection of the protein encoded by the CAV3 gene. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 151 amino acid residues and a mass of 17.3 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the golgi and cell membrane. It is reported to be highly expressed in muscle. A member of the Caveolin protein family, it is believed to act as a scaffolding protein within caveolar membranes. Post-translational modifications have been described, including sumoylation. Other names for this target antigen include LQT9, MPDT, RMD2, VIP-21, VIP21, M-caveolin, cavolin 3, and LGMD1C.
