Anti-Presenilin 2 antibodies are used in the immunodetection of the protein encoded by the PSEN2 gene. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 448 amino acid residues and a mass of 50.1 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the ER and golgi. Alternative splicing is reported to yield 3 different isoforms for this protein. A member of the Peptidase A22A protein family, it is a suspected catalytic subunit of the gamma-secretase complex, an endoprotease complex that catalyzes the intramembrane cleavage of integral membrane proteins such as Notch receptors and APP (amyloid-beta precursor protein). Post-translational modifications have been described, including protein cleavage and phosphorylation. Other names for this target antigen include AD4, CMD1V, PS2, STM2, AD3LP, AD5, Alzheimer disease 3-like, and AD3L.
