Antibodies to Alpha Tubulin are commonly used as loading controls in western blots. This is because Alpha Tubulin along with its counterpart Beta Tubulin polymerize to form microtubules, a major component of the cellular cytoskeleton. The human gene encoding Alpha Tubulin is TUBA1B, or 'tubulin alpha 1b', encodes a 451-amino acid protein that is predicted to be localized to the cytoplasm. See the supplier page to learn important details such as the target species specificity and the applications for which the antibody has been validated.
