Anti-DEFA5 antibodies are used in the immunodetection of the protein defensin alpha 5. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 94 amino acid residues and a mass of 10.1 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the cytoplasmic vesicles and is secreted. It is reported to be expressed in the gastrointestinal, reproductive, and urinary tracts. A member of the Alpha-defensin protein family, Defa5 is reported to be a host-defense peptide that maintains sterility in the urogenital system. Post-translational modifications have been described, including glycosylation and protein cleavage.
The DEFA5 marker can be used to identify Epithelium Large Intestine Paneth Cells and Colon Paneth Cells.* Synonyms for this target antigen include HD-5, HD5(20-94), defensin, alpha 5, Paneth cell-specific, defensin, alpha 5, preproprotein, defensin-5, and DEF5. A number of Defa5 antibodies have been mentioned in research publications and have associated citations. Immunohistochemistry is a widely used application for these antibodies. ELISA, Western Blot, Immunocytochemistry, and Immunofluorescence are also common applications.
