Anti-Synapsin III antibodies are used in the immunodetection of the protein encoded by the SYN3 gene. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 580 amino acid residues and a mass of 63.3 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the cytoplasmic vesicles and membrane. It is reported to have neuron specific expression. A member of the Synapsin protein family, it is suspected to be involved in the regulation of neurotransmitter release and synaptogenesis. Post-translational modifications have been described, including phosphorylation. Other names for this target antigen include synapsin-3 and cN28H9.2 (synapsin III).
