Anti-Vel antibodies enable researchers to detect and measure the Vel antigen in biological samples. This target is a reported synonym of the SMIM1 gene, which encodes small integral membrane protein 1 (Vel blood group). This protein is a reported regulator of red blood cell formation. The human version of Vel has a canonical amino acid length of 78 residues and a protein mass of 8.7 kilodaltons. It is reported to be localized in the cell membrane of cells and notably expressed in the seminal vesicle, salivary gland, ovary, kidney, and epididymis. Vel is a member of the SMIM1 protein family.
