Neural cell adhesion molecule (NCAM, CD56), is a homophilic binding glycoprotein expressed on the surface of many cell types, including human cancer cells. NCAM regulates several cell functions, including cell-cell adhesion. We analyzed the levels of NCAM expression on the surface of human tumor cells exhibiting different levels of metastatic potential. The antibody sc-7326 was successfully used by western blotting to visualize NCAM in total cell lysates, cell surface fractions and extracts from primary tumor xenografts.

Results Summary

Monoclonal mouse antibody sc-7326 against human NCAM nicely detected the protein band of expected mol. wt. (~140 kDa for one of cell surface isoforms) in lysates prepared from human xenografts. The levels of NCAM were comparable between low and high metastatic HT-1080 tumor variants.
