Our lab is working in developing different mouse models to study the efficacy of therapeutic candidates and vaccines against HIV, as HIV cannot infect rodent cells. One of our models is expresses three transgenic human host factors that allows the acute HIV infection of mice. We are currently utilizing this model to test a novel HIV vaccine, and we are performing detailed FACS analyses in immunized mice to examine their CD4 and CD8 T cell responses in peripheral blood and spleen upon antigen stimulation. Given that we look at different cellular markers and cytokine production, we use different panels of antibodies for T cells markers and cytokines such as IFN-γ.
