Company:

Eppendorf

Product Name:

Mega centrifuge 5810R

Catalog Number:

5810R

I regularly use Eppendorf's bench-top megafuge model 5810R for pelleting 50 ml cultures for lipid extraction and 12 ml volume culture and RNA protect mix for RNA extraction. This megafuge has refrigeration temperature and found ideal for RNA sample prep. We had no issues in using it and maintaining it. Total satisfactory performance.

Experimental Design and Results Summary

Application

Centrifugation of bacterial cultures for various extraction protocols

Starting Material

50 ml and 12 ml volume bacterial culture

Protocol Overview

For lipid extraction (which i use them in TLC and MS), I use 50 ml bacterial culture in a 50 ml tube holders in swinging bucket rotor at 4000 rpm at room temperature. For RNA extraction, I use in 15 ml tubes in 15 ml tube holders with swinging bucket rotor at 4000 rpm and 4 degree Celsius. This centrifuge is easy to program and operate. Self explanatory on-screen programming instructions. Centrifugation is satisfactory with less noise during operation.

Tips

If you want to centrifuge at 4 degree C, then do fast cool temperature program for 8 minutes.

Results Summary

Centrifugation of both cultures for lipid and RNA samples performed very well.
