Description

Product Characteristics:
B lymphocytes marker CD20 is a non glycosylated protein with a molecular weight of 35 or 37 kDa depending on the degree of phosphorylation. Although not a member of the tetraspanin superfamily of cell surface receptors, it crosses the cell membrane four times. The CD20 antigen is present on human pre B lymphocytes and on B lymphocytes at all stages of maturation, except on plasma cells. Low level expression of the CD20 antigen has been detected on normal T lymphocytes. The CD20 Molecule is involved in regulation of B cell differentiation, presumably via its reported function as a Ca++ channel subunit.

Subcellular location: Cell membrane

Synonyms: B1, S7, Bp35, CD2, CVID5, MS4A2, LEU-16, B-lymphocyte antigen CD2, B-lymphocyte surface antigen B1, Leukocyte surface antigen Leu-16, Membrane-spanning 4-domains subfamily A member 1, MS4A1

Target Information: This gene encodes a member of the membrane-spanning 4A gene family. Members of this nascent protein family are characterized by common structural features and similar intron/exon splice boundaries and display unique expression patterns among hematopoietic cells and nonlymphoid tissues. This gene encodes a B-lymphocyte surface molecule which plays a role in the development and differentiation of B-cells into plasma cells. This family member is localized to 11q12, among a cluster of family members. Alternative splicing of this gene results in two transcript variants which encode the same protein.
