All Under One Roof

The digital era brings a great opportunity to create a unified system for acquisition and documentation of imaging data. There are several companies (some of them listed below) which provide such multi-purpose systems for universal imaging of fluorescence, chemifluorescence, chemiluminescence, and chromogenic gels, blots and plates. When making the decision to purchase such a versatile system (which usually comes with rather hefty price tag), it is really important to consider several factors. One of the most important is the utilization of all of the bells and whistles. Are you going to use all of the options? How often? Could the system become a bottleneck of data acquisition in your lab? With what platform does it work: PC, Mac or both? Is the software user-friendly? Since your various images will be captured by the camera, knowing the camera’s specifications, like resolution, sensitivity, dynamic range, and memory capacity is essential too. Once you have narrowed down your search to 2-3 systems, contact the companies and request a demo. There is nothing better then trying it out in your own lab.
