The protein, with a mass of 23.7 kDa and length of 207 residues, is reported to be cytoplasmic and membrane-associated. It is a member of the Small GTPase superfamily, Rab family and may be known by other names, including: MEL, ras-associated protein RAB8- RAB8 homolog, mel transforming oncogene (RAB8 homolog), and ras-related protein Rab-8A.
