Anti-K18 antibodies are used in antigen-specific immunodetection in biological samples. The target K18 is a known alias name of the protein keratin 18, encoded by the KRT18 gene in humans. This 430-amino acid residue protein is reported to be involved in uptake of thrombin-antithrombin complexes by hepatic cells (By similarity). It is localized to the nucleus and cytoplasm of the cell and features glycosylated, cleaved and phosphorylated post-translational modifications. In terms of tissue expression, it is reported to be expressed in colon, placenta, liver and very weakly in exocervix. Other synonyms for K18 include CK-18, CK-18, and CYK18. Western Blot is the most common application for the K18 antibodies listed below. ELISA and Immunohistochemistry are also common applications.
