Anti-PMP2 antibodies are used in the immunodetection of the protein peripheral myelin protein 2. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 132 amino acid residues and a mass of 14.9 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the cytoplasm. A member of the Fatty-acid binding protein (FABP) protein family, PMP2 is believed to play a role in lipid transport protein in Schwann cells. The PMP2 gene has been associated with the disease, Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease. Synonyms for this target antigen include FABP8, M-FABP, MP2, P2, myelin P2 protein, and CMT1G. PMP2 gene orthologs have been reported in the mouse, rat and chimpanzee species. A number of PMP2 antibodies have been mentioned in research publications and have associated citations. ELISA is a widely used application for these antibodies. Western Blot and Immunohistochemistry are also common applications.
