Anti-C3 antibodies are used in the immunodetection of the protein complement C3. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 1663 amino acid residues and a mass of 187.1 kDa. It has been described to be a secreted protein. It is notably expressed in plasma. C3 is known to be involved with fatty acid metabolism and GPCR signaling pathways. Post-translational modifications have been described, including glycosylation, protein cleavage and phosphorylation. The C3 marker can be used to identify Fibroblastic Reticular Cells (FRC).* Synonyms for this target antigen include ARMD9, ASP, C3a, C3b, CPAMD1, HEL-S-62p, C3 and PZP-like alpha-2-macroglobulin domain-containing protein 1, and AHUS5. C3 gene orthologs have been reported in the mouse, rat, bovine and chicken species.
