Anti-ICAM1 antibodies are used in the immunodetection of the protein intercellular adhesion molecule 1. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 532 amino acid residues and a mass of 57.8 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the membrane. It is notably expressed in many tissues, such as the colon and endometrium. A member of the ICAM protein family, ICAM1 is known to be involved with cell adhesion and the regulation of apoptosis. Post-translational modifications have been described, including ubiquitination and glycosylation. The ICAM1 marker can be used to identify Blood Vessel Endothelial Cells.* Synonyms for this target antigen include CD54, P3.58, cell surface glycoprotein P3.58, epididymis secretory sperm binding protein, intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (CD54), human rhinovirus receptor, and BB2. ICAM1 gene orthologs have been reported in the mouse, rat, zebrafish and chimpanzee species.
