Anti-VPREB1 antibodies are used in the immunodetection of the protein V-set pre-B cell surrogate light chain 1. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 145 amino acid residues and a mass of 16.6 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the ER. It is notably expressed in the bone marrow and tonsil. A member of the Immunoglobulin protein superfamily, VPREB1 is reported to associate with the Ig-mu chain to form a molecular complex that is expressed on the surface of pre-B-cells. The VPREB1 marker can be used to identify Pro B Progenitor Cells.* Synonyms for this target antigen include IGI, IGVPB, VPREB, immunoglobulin iota chain, CD179 antigen-like family member A, and CD179a. VPREB1 gene orthologs have been reported in the mouse and rat species.
