Anti-C8A antibodies are used in the immunodetection of the protein complement C8 alpha chain. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 584 amino acid residues and a mass of 65.2 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the cell membrane and is secreted. A member of the Complement C6/C7/C8/C9 protein family, C8A is known to be involved with immune response pathways. Post-translational modifications have been described, including glycosylation. The C8A gene has been associated with the disease, Complement component 8 deficiency. Synonyms for this target antigen include complement component 8 alpha subunit, complement component 8 subunit alpha, complement component 8, alpha polypeptide, and complement component C8 alpha chain. C8A gene orthologs have been reported in the mouse, rat, bovine, frog, zebrafish, chimpanzee and chicken species. A number of C8A antibodies have been mentioned in research publications and have associated citations. Western Blot is a widely used application for these antibodies. ELISA and Immunohistochemistry are also common applications.
