Anti-H1-7 antibodies are used in the immunodetection of the protein H1.7 linker histone. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 255 amino acid residues and a mass of 28.1 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the nucleus. It is reported to have testis-specific expression. A member of the Histone H1/H5 protein family, H1-7 is known to be important for normal spermatogenesis and male fertility. Synonyms for this target antigen include H1 histone family member N, testis specific, HANP1, haploid germ cell-specific nuclear protein 1, histone H1.7, histone H1t2, and testis-specific H1 histone. H1-7 gene orthologs have been reported in the mouse, rat and chimpanzee species.
