Anti-MAT2A antibodies are used in the immunodetection of the protein methionine adenosyltransferase 2A. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 395 amino acid residues and a mass of 43.7 kDa. Up to 2 different isoforms have been reported for this protein. It is notably expressed in the kidney. A member of the AdoMet synthase protein family, MAT2A is known to catalyze the formation of S-adenosylmethionine from methionine and ATP. Synonyms for this target antigen include MATII, SAMS2, S-adenosylmethionine synthase isoform type-2, MAT 2, MAT-II, and MATA2. MAT2A gene orthologs have been reported in the mouse, rat, bovine, frog and chimpanzee species.
